Arbutus Point - Waterfront Camping with Modern Conveniences

Established in 2005 and completed in the spring of 2006, Arbutus Point Camp recreates the simple early days of T’ai Li Lodge with a few modern conveniences like an electric refrigerator and a flush toilet.

Private Cortes Island Campsites

Located to the south of “The Lodge,” surrounded by the sea and a mixed pine, fir and arbutus (madrona) forest,  Arbutus Point Camp can be used as a separate facility, or integrated with “The Lodge” for larger groups. When operating on its own, Arbutus Point Camp will serve up to five separate groups of between one to four people each. When operating in this mode, accommodation rates will include a healthy gourmet breakfast.

Modern Facilities in a Natural Setting

All guests at Arbutus Point Camp will be able to use “Arbutus Commons” (also called “The Commons”) which is a unique cedar covered building with a living green moss roof. It has double level decks with steps leading down to the ocean shore. Kayak racks will be available for paddlers.

The Commons has space available for outdoor or indoor dining. Everyone has a “waterfront table” with views across Desolation Sound to the snow-capped Coast Mountain Range. The setting is astonishing – we still can’t absorb how beautiful it is ourselves!

A small but complete kitchen, modern toilet and shower, and generous indoor space are available for the use of Arbutus Point Camp guests. The Commons can also be utilized for small group meetings, family reunions or workshop sessions.

Secluded Waterfront Campsites - Fully Furnished

Located in secluded waterfront locations around the Commons are four rustic tent-cabins. They are furnished with comfortable beds and full linen service. You only need to bring your personal gear. In addition to the Commons, these tent-cabins are supported by a conveniently located outhouse and an outdoor wash house with a sink in one section and a truly wonderful solar hot shower in the other. Once you have tried it, you will always choose to shower outside for the view, the squirrels scampering in the trees, and the birds all around you.

Oceanfront Camp Site - Bring your own Tent

Arbutus Point Camp also includes an oceanfront camp site that guests are welcome to pitch their own tents on. This camping area will accommodate up to four persons in two expedition style tents.

Meal Catering Available

Meal catering is available by arrangement.
